BELIEFS EXAMINED

WHAT DOES THE BIBLESAY ABOUTHOMOSEXUALITY?

KEY TRUTH

The Bible presents sexual union as God’s gift for marriage between a man and a woman and consistently identifies same-sex sexual conduct as outside that design. At the same time, Scripture forbids hatred, cruelty, pride, and self-righteousness. The gospel offers forgiveness and a new life to every sinner who comes to Christ.

PRIMARY PASSAGE
IMPORTANT FOUNDATION

Every person bears the image of God and must be treated with dignity. Biblical disagreement never justifies mockery, violence, harassment, or hatred.

GOD’S CREATION DESIGN

Jesus grounded marriage in creation: male and female, husband and wife, one flesh. Biblical sexual ethics begin with this positive design rather than with hostility toward a particular group.

Sex is not treated as dirty. It is a good gift with a God-given covenant boundary.

MALE AND FEMALE
WHAT SCRIPTURE SAYS ABOUT SAME-SEX ACTS

Both Old and New Testaments identify same-sex sexual acts as sinful. Romans 1 describes women and men exchanging natural relations, and 1 Corinthians includes same-sex conduct among sins from which people may be washed and changed.

The biblical argument is not limited to one culture or one isolated verse. It is connected to creation, holiness, and the proper use of the body.

CONTRARY TO NATURE
TEMPTATION, DESIRE, AND ACTION

Experiencing an unwanted attraction or temptation is not identical to committing an act. Every believer faces desires that must be brought under Christ’s authority.

Scripture does not tell a person to build ultimate identity around a temptation. The Christian’s deepest identity is found in Christ, and every disciple is called to self-denial and holiness.

SUCH WERE SOME OF YOU
THE SAME GOSPEL FOR EVERY SINNER

Homosexual conduct is not the only sexual sin addressed in Scripture. Adultery, fornication, lust, pornography, exploitation, and unfaithfulness also violate God’s design.

Christians become hypocritical when they condemn one sin loudly while excusing their own. All have sinned, and all need the same mercy.

ALL HAVE SINNED
LOVE AND TRUTH

Love does not require changing the Bible’s teaching, and truth does not require treating people as enemies. Jesus was full of grace and truth.

A faithful Christian can listen, show hospitality, defend a person from mistreatment, acknowledge real pain, and still speak honestly about sexual morality.

A NEEDED DISTINCTION

Rejecting same-sex sexual conduct is not permission to despise people who experience same-sex attraction.

PASTORAL CARE MUST BE MORE THAN A SLOGAN

Some people have carried secrecy, rejection, family conflict, bullying, or deep loneliness. A faithful church should not answer every struggle with a detached sentence and then disappear.

Pastoral care includes listening, friendship, prayer, patient discipleship, practical support, and accountability. Compassion does not change the moral standard; it helps a person carry the cost of obedience within a loving body.

CHANGE AND CHRISTIAN HOPE

The gospel does not promise that every unwanted attraction will vanish immediately. It promises forgiveness, the indwelling Spirit, a new identity, and sufficient grace for obedience.

Christian hope should not be reduced to a demand for a particular emotional experience. The aim is faithfulness to Christ, whether the battle changes quickly, slowly, or remains an area requiring lifelong dependence.

CELIBACY AND THE CHURCH

Scripture calls every unmarried believer—whatever his or her pattern of attraction—to chastity. Celibacy is not a lesser form of humanity.

The church must become a genuine family where single believers are known, loved, served, and given meaningful fellowship rather than merely told what not to do.
