IS JESUS CHRISTFULLY GOD ANDFULLY MAN?
Yes. Jesus Christ is one divine Person who is fully God and fully man. He did not stop being God when He became flesh, and He did not merely appear human. The eternal Son assumed a true human nature so that He could reveal the Father and redeem mankind.
“Jesus was partly God and partly man, or else God only appeared to have a human body.”
John first declares that the Word was God, then states that the Word was made flesh. The subject is the same eternal Word.
The incarnation did not transform God into a creature or blend deity and humanity into a third kind of being. The Son remained who He eternally is while truly taking what He had not previously possessed—a human nature.
Jesus possesses divine names, attributes, works, honor, and authority. He forgives sins, receives worship, knows hearts, creates and sustains all things, and will judge mankind.
His deity is not an honorary rank granted to a righteous man. The fulness of the Godhead dwells in Him bodily.
Jesus was conceived and born, grew, hungered, thirsted, slept, wept, suffered, and died. He possessed a real body and a human soul.
After the resurrection He remained bodily human, inviting the disciples to handle Him and see that a spirit did not have flesh and bones as He had.
The virgin conception identifies the child as the promised Son and shows that His coming was God’s supernatural act. He is truly born of a woman and truly called the Son of God.
The virgin birth does not make Mary the source of His deity. The Son is eternal; His human nature was assumed in the incarnation.
Christ was genuinely tempted and understands human weakness, yet He was without sin. Temptation does not require an inward sinful nature.
His sinlessness does not make His human experience unreal. It makes Him the spotless High Priest and sacrifice sinners need.
As man, Christ can represent mankind, obey, suffer, shed blood, die, and rise bodily. As God, His Person gives infinite worth to His work, and He possesses the power to save completely.
A merely human saviour could not bear the full saving office Scripture assigns to Christ. A saviour who only appeared human could not truly die for mankind.
The Gospels do not present a divine Christ living beside a separate human Jesus. The one Lord speaks and acts through both divine and human qualities. The same Person who was weary at the well could tell the woman the secrets of her life.
His two natures are not confused, but neither are they divided into two persons. The one born of Mary is the eternal Son present in true humanity.
The Son did not discard humanity after completing the cross. He rose bodily, ascended, and remains the man Christ Jesus who mediates for believers.
The incarnation is therefore not a temporary costume. The glorified Christ remains truly God and truly man, the firstfruits of the coming resurrection.
What must be confessed about Jesus Christ?
The eternal Word is fully God.
The Word truly became flesh.
The fulness of the Godhead dwells in Him bodily.
He possesses a true human body and soul.
He was born of a virgin and remained sinless.
He was genuinely tempted yet without sin.
He is the one sufficient mediator and Saviour.
Receive the biblical Christ rather than a reduced version of Him. Worship Him as God, trust the man who died and rose for you, and come boldly through the High Priest who understands human weakness without sharing human sin.
