Why Christians Must Study

Simple does not mean shallow.

Christianity is not a complicated religion that only trained scholars can understand. The gospel is clear: Jesus Christ died for our sins, was buried, and rose again. Salvation is God’s gift, received by faith in Christ.

But simple does not mean shallow. God did not give believers only a few familiar verses, encouraging sayings, or religious traditions. He gave the whole Scripture to be received, studied, believed, and obeyed.

“The simple believeth every word: but the prudent man looketh well to his going.”
Proverbs 14:15

Some Christians become content with only what they already know. They may trust what they have always heard or follow teaching merely because it sounds encouraging. Biblical simplicity is not carelessness, ignorance, or blind acceptance. It is humble faith in what God has actually said.

The Bereans were commended because they received the Word with readiness and searched the Scriptures daily to test the teaching they heard. We study doctrine not to win arguments or appear superior, but to know God more clearly, guard the gospel, recognize error, worship in truth, and stand firmly on the Word of God.
