Soulwinning Guide

A clear Bible guide for sharing the gospel, answering honest questions, and helping people understand salvation through Jesus Christ.

Start the Guide
Soulwinning is not winning an argument or pushing someone into words. It is faithfully pointing people to Jesus Christ through Scripture.
Why We Share the Gospel

People need Christ, and Christ has commanded us to tell them.

Every person has sinned and needs reconciliation with God. No one can save himself by good works, religion, personal effort, or outward change. Jesus Christ died for our sins, rose again, and offers eternal life to those who trust Him.

Soulwinning is not about showing how much we know. It is about opening the Bible, speaking with charity, explaining the gospel clearly, and giving people an honest opportunity to understand what Christ has done for them.

“Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ’s stead, be ye reconciled to God.”
2 Corinthians 5:20
01
Christ Commanded Us
Jesus told His people to make Him known and teach others His truth.
02
People Need Salvation
Every person has sinned and needs the forgiveness found in Christ alone.
03
The Gospel Has Power
The power is not in our personality. It is in the gospel of Jesus Christ.
04
Charity Moves Us
Biblical love does not stay silent when someone needs to hear the truth.
Soulwinning Principles

Share the gospel with truth, clarity, and charity.

This is a guide, not a speech to memorize. Listen to the person, use Scripture, answer honestly, and keep Jesus Christ at the center.

01
Begin With Prayer and the Right Heart
Ask God for compassion, wisdom, boldness, and the right words.

Only God can save a soul. Your responsibility is to faithfully share the message of Christ. Do not depend on personality, clever answers, or a perfect presentation. Depend on the Word of God and speak with humility.

Colossians 4:2–4 · Ephesians 6:19–20 · 2 Corinthians 5:20

02
Speak With Charity and Respect
Listen before answering. Treat the person as someone made by God.

Do not mock, interrupt, embarrass, or argue with people. Speak plainly and honestly, but with patience. A person should sense that you genuinely care about him, not that you are trying to win a debate.

Truth and charity belong together. The gospel is serious, but it should be explained with humility and compassion.

Helpful Bible Texts

Colossians 4:5–6 · 2 Timothy 2:24–25 · 1 Peter 3:15

03
Start With a Simple Question
Ask naturally and let the person explain what he believes.

Begin naturally. A person may already be thinking about death, guilt, suffering, purpose, or the future. Use a question that opens the conversation without pressure.

You May Ask

“May I ask you a question about eternity?”

“What do you believe happens after death?”

“What do you think a person must do to be saved?”

“Have you ever read what the Bible says about salvation?”

Helpful Bible Texts

John 4:7–26 · Acts 8:30–35 · Colossians 4:5–6

04
Listen Carefully Before You Answer
Find out what the person is trusting in before showing what Scripture says.

Do not assume you already know what the person believes. Listen for whether he is trusting good works, baptism, church attendance, family background, religion, feelings, a past prayer, or Christ alone.

Ask gentle follow-up questions. Their answers will help you know where to begin in Scripture.

Helpful Question

“What are you trusting in for salvation?”

05
Show the Need: Every Person Has Sinned
God’s standard is not whether we are better than other people.

Many people say, “I am a good person,” “I have not hurt anyone,” or “I am not as bad as other people.” But God’s standard is perfect righteousness. Every person has sinned and fallen short of His glory.

Explain that salvation is needed by everyone, not only by people whose sins are visible or public.

Helpful Bible Texts

Romans 3:10 · Romans 3:23 · James 2:10

06
Explain the Consequence: Sin Brings Death
God is loving, but He is also holy, righteous, and just.

Do not hide the seriousness of sin. Sin brings death and judgment. This does not make the gospel hopeless. It shows why Christ came and why salvation is necessary.

Give hope immediately. The same verse that shows sin’s wages also shows God’s gift: eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Helpful Bible Texts

Romans 6:23 · Hebrews 9:27 · John 3:18

07
Present Jesus Christ: The Only Saviour
Christ died for sinners, was buried, and rose again.

The gospel is good news because God provided the Saviour. Jesus Christ did not come merely to teach people how to become better. He came to save sinners. He took the penalty for sin through His death and rose again in victory.

Keep Christ central. A person needs more than religion, self-improvement, or advice. He needs the Saviour.

Helpful Bible Texts

Romans 5:8 · 1 Corinthians 15:3–4 · 1 Peter 3:18 · John 14:6

08
Explain Faith, Not Works
Faith receives what Christ has done. Works cannot earn salvation.

Be clear about the difference. Good works, baptism, church attendance, religious effort, reforming one’s life, or repeating words cannot remove sin. Salvation is God’s gift because Christ paid the price.

Faith is not another work. Faith means trusting Jesus Christ, not trusting yourself. It receives the salvation Christ has already provided.

Helpful Bible Texts

Ephesians 2:8–9 · Titus 3:5 · Romans 4:5 · Galatians 2:16

09
Leading a Person to Trust Christ
Slow down and make sure the person understands what he is trusting.

After you have explained the gospel, do not rush. Ask simple questions and let the person answer in his own words.

Questions to Ask

Do you understand why every person needs salvation?

Do you believe that Jesus Christ died for your sins and rose again?

What are you trusting in for salvation?

Are you trusting Jesus Christ alone as your Saviour?

The goal is not to lead someone through a set of words. The goal is for the person to understand the gospel and personally place his faith in Jesus Christ alone.

God’s Promise

“He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.” — John 6:47

10
Thanksgiving and Declaration of Faith
After trusting Christ, a person may thank God and declare what he is trusting.

After a person clearly expresses that he is trusting Jesus Christ alone, he may respond to God with thanksgiving and a personal declaration of faith.

Encourage the person to pray in his own words when possible. The important issue is not how perfectly a prayer is spoken, but whether he is trusting Jesus Christ alone.

A Prayer of Thanksgiving and Faith

Lord Jesus, I know that I am a sinner and cannot save myself. I believe that You died for my sins and rose again. I am trusting You alone as my Saviour. Thank You for forgiving my sins and giving me eternal life. Amen.

Keep This Clear

Jesus Christ saves. This prayer is thanksgiving and a personal declaration of faith in Him.

11
Give Assurance From Scripture
Assurance rests on God’s promise, not on feelings or memory.

After someone has trusted Christ, point him to what God said. A saved person may still have questions, temptations, emotions, and struggles. Assurance rests on the promise of eternal life to the one who believes on Christ.

Helpful Bible Texts

John 6:47 · John 3:16 · Romans 10:13 · 1 John 5:13

12
Follow Up With Care
Help a new believer begin well and continue growing in Christ.

If someone has trusted Christ, do not leave him alone. Encourage him to read the Bible, pray, attend a Bible-believing church, and learn the next steps of Christian life.

Stay available for questions, encouragement, and discipleship. New believers need care, clear teaching, and Christian fellowship.

Helpful Bible Texts

Acts 2:41–42 · 1 Peter 2:2 · Hebrews 10:24–25

13
When Someone Is Not Ready
Be faithful, patient, and prayerful. The results belong to God.

Do not argue, become frustrated, or force a decision. Thank the person for listening. Leave him with clear Scripture, invite him to return with questions, and continue to pray for him.

Faithfulness means giving the gospel clearly. God works in hearts. Your responsibility is to speak the truth with charity.

1 Corinthians 3:6–7 · 2 Timothy 2:24–25 · Galatians 6:9

Keep These Things Clear

Faithful soulwinning is truthful, patient, and Christ-centered.

  • Do not turn the conversation into an argument. Give truth with charity.
  • Do not tell someone to clean up his life before coming to Christ.
  • Do not make a prayer sound like a formula for salvation.
  • Do not give assurance until the person clearly understands he is trusting Christ alone.
  • Do not promise an easy life. Point people to Christ, forgiveness, eternal life, and growth through His Word.
