BELIEFS EXAMINED

IS ASTROLOGY HARMLESSENTERTAINMENT?

KEY TRUTH

Astronomy studies the created heavens; astrology claims that heavenly bodies reveal character, destiny, compatibility, or guidance. Scripture celebrates the stars as God’s workmanship but rejects divination and seeking direction from the creation. Treating astrology as entertainment can still normalize a false spiritual framework and shape choices or identity.

BE NOT DISMAYED AT THE SIGNS OF HEAVEN
COMMON CLAIM

“Horoscopes are harmless fun, and personality descriptions based on birth signs are only a playful way to understand people.”

ASTRONOMY AND ASTROLOGY ARE DIFFERENT

The Bible encourages wonder at the sun, moon, and stars because God made and governs them. Scientific study of the heavens investigates physical creation.

Astrology assigns spiritual or predictive meaning to the positions of celestial bodies. The problem is not looking at stars but asking them to reveal what God has not appointed them to reveal.

VAGUE STATEMENTS FEEL PERSONAL

Horoscopes often use broad descriptions that can fit many people. Readers remember apparent matches and overlook failures, creating a sense of accuracy without reliable prediction.

Even when a person claims not to believe, repeated labels can influence expectations: “I act this way because I am a Scorpio,” or, “We cannot marry because our signs conflict.”

IDENTITY SHOULD NOT BE TAKEN FROM A BIRTH SIGN

Scripture describes identity in relation to the Creator, sin, family, gifts, choices, and—above all for believers—union with Christ. A chart calculated from birth time does not define moral character.

Astrological labels can excuse sin, create pride, or reduce complex persons to categories they did not choose.

THE HEAVENS DECLARE GOD’S GLORY
GUIDANCE THROUGH DIVINATION COMPETES WITH TRUST

When people consult charts about relationships, money, travel, or danger, astrology becomes a form of divination. It promises hidden knowledge that bypasses prayer, wisdom, Scripture, and responsible decision-making.

God calls His people to walk by faith rather than manipulate uncertainty through omens.

ENTERTAINMENT CAN TRAIN THE IMAGINATION

Not every reader of a horoscope consciously worships another god. Nevertheless, entertainment is not morally empty. Practices can make forbidden ideas familiar, attractive, and socially authoritative.

A Christian should ask not only, “Do I fully believe this?” but also, “Why am I seeking meaning or reassurance here?”

THE STARS POINT TO GOD, NOT PERSONAL DESTINY

The heavens declare God’s glory and demonstrate His power and order. He numbers the stars; they do not rule Him or speak independently.

The right response to the night sky is worship of the Maker, not submission to a zodiac system.

TURN FROM FEAR AND FATALISM

Astrology can make people anxious about eclipses, retrogrades, or predicted seasons. The gospel teaches that providence is personal, not mechanical, and that believers are held by their Father.

Choices have consequences, but no planet can separate the believer from the love of God or remove moral responsibility.

BIBLICALIST POINTS

Why should Christians reject astrology?

01

Astronomy studies creation; astrology seeks spiritual meaning from it.

02

Horoscopes often depend on vague, widely applicable claims.

03

Birth signs do not define identity or excuse conduct.

04

Astrological guidance functions as divination.

05

Entertainment can normalize a false spiritual framework.

06

The stars reveal the Maker’s glory, not private destiny.

07

God’s providence frees believers from fear and fatalism.

NOW WHAT?

Delete horoscope apps, stop identifying yourself by a zodiac sign, and refuse birth-chart guidance. Bring uncertainty to God in prayer, seek wisdom from Scripture and mature counsel, and make responsible choices. Enjoy the heavens as creation and let them lead your mind to the Lord who made them.
