IS IGLESIA NI CRISTO ACHRISTIAN CHURCH?

Official Iglesia ni Cristo publications teach that the Father alone is the one true God, that Jesus Christ is a man and God’s appointed Lord rather than God by nature, and that the true Church of Christ re-emerged in the Philippines in 1914 through Felix Manalo.

They also teach that people must enter and remain in this Church to gain the right to salvation. These claims should be answered from context rather than by mocking members or relying on rumors.

Jesus addresses the Father as the only true God while also identifying Himself as the One whose knowledge is necessary for eternal life and asking for the glory He shared before the world existed.

The distinction between Father and Son does not mean the Son is a creature. John’s Gospel already declared the Word was God, that all things were made by Him, and that the Son should receive honor even as the Father.

Jesus is truly man, but Scripture does not say He is only man. The eternal Word became flesh. Thomas addressed the risen Christ as “My Lord and my God,” and Hebrews records the Father addressing the Son as God.

A doctrine that gathers verses about Christ’s humanity while explaining away direct declarations of deity does not receive the whole witness of Scripture.

Iglesia ni Cristo arguments often rely on a particular translation rendering the phrase “church of Christ.” Even if that wording is used, the expression describes the church belonging to Christ; it does not identify a twentieth-century corporation by its registered name.

The same verse says the church was purchased with blood, a statement closely connected to the identity and saving work of Christ. A phrase cannot carry the historical claim that Felix Manalo restored the only saving institution.

Prophetic expressions about the ends of the earth normally refer to distant places or the worldwide reach of God’s work, not a coded calendar date identifying 1914 or a single nation.

A claimed messenger must be tested by the doctrine he brings. If the messenger denies the deity of the Son or makes organizational membership necessary for salvation, alleged prophetic parallels cannot overturn clear gospel teaching.

The church is Christ’s body, and every believer should unite with a faithful local church. Yet Scripture does not teach that entering one modern denomination grants the right to salvation.

The jailer was told to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ. Those who receive Christ are added to His people; membership is the result of salvation, not a substitute for personal faith in the divine Son.

INC members are often disciplined, family-minded, and sincere. Personal kindness should be recognized. A person’s moral seriousness, however, cannot establish the truth of the organization’s exclusive claims.

Christians should avoid harassment and political arguments, open the Bible patiently, and focus on the identity of Christ and the gospel.
