WHAT HAPPENED WHEN I GOT SAVED?

THE BIBLICAL ANSWER

When you believed on the Lord Jesus Christ, God saved you by His grace. Your sins were forgiven, you received eternal life, you became a child of God, and you were made a new creature in Christ.

PRIMARY PASSAGE
SUPPORTING PASSAGES
1 CORINTHIANS 15:3–4 · KJV

“Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures.”

JOHN 1:12 · KJV

“But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:”

UNDERSTANDING THE TEXT

Salvation is not merely deciding to become religious, joining a church, turning over a new leaf, or promising to do better. You were a sinner who could not save yourself. The Lord Jesus Christ died for your sins, was buried, and rose again. When you stopped trusting yourself and believed on Him, God saved you by grace through faith.

WHAT GOD DID FOR YOU

God forgave your sins through the blood of Christ. He gave you eternal life. He received you as His child. He justified you by faith, meaning that He declared you righteous because of the Lord Jesus Christ. He placed you in Christ and began a new work in your life. These truths rest on God’s Word, not on changing emotions.

A COMMON MISUNDERSTANDING

“I was saved because I became sincere, changed my behaviour, or began doing good works.”

BIBLICAL CLARIFICATION

Good works do not produce salvation. Salvation is God’s gift, received by faith in Jesus Christ. A changed life should follow salvation, but that change is the fruit of being saved, not the price paid to become saved. You do not obey God in order to earn eternal life; you begin learning to obey because He has already saved you.

A FAITHFUL RESPONSE

Thank God for saving you through His Son. Stop measuring your salvation by feelings. Begin believing what Scripture says about your new position in Christ. Desire the Word of God, pray, gather with a sound Bible-believing church, and take the next step of obedience as you grow.

PERSONAL REFLECTION

Are you resting completely in what Jesus Christ did for you, or are you still trying to add your own works, feelings, or religious effort to His finished work?
