HOW DO I FACE TEMPTATION?

The Lord Jesus Christ was tempted, yet He did not sin. Temptation becomes sin when a person yields to it in the heart, mind, words, or actions. A believer should not panic because temptation appears, but he should respond quickly and biblically.

Temptation often works through wrong desire. The Bible shows that temptation is not only outside pressure. It also works through the desires of the flesh. Sin often begins before the action. It begins when the heart is drawn away and enticed.

Temptation usually follows a pattern. Temptation often begins small, but it grows when it is fed. A believer must learn to recognize the pattern early and not wait until the heart is already surrendered.

Answer temptation with the Word of God. When the Lord Jesus was tempted, He answered with Scripture: “It is written.” A believer must learn to bring temptation under the authority of God’s Word instead of arguing with the flesh.

Watch and pray. The believer should not be careless about temptation. Jesus told His disciples to watch and pray. Prayer is not a decoration for the Christian life; it is part of standing against weakness and dependence on the flesh.

Submit to God and resist the devil. The believer does not defeat temptation by pride or self-confidence. First submit to God. Then resist the devil. Resistance without submission becomes self-effort. Submission to God puts the believer under the right authority.

Sometimes the right answer is to flee. Some temptations should not be entertained, studied, debated, or kept nearby. The Bible tells believers to flee youthful lusts. Running from sin is not weakness. It is wisdom and obedience.

Do not prepare a place for sin. Many falls happen because a person makes room for the flesh before the temptation becomes strong. Do not keep near you what you know weakens you. Remove access, change habits, and stop feeding what God tells you to deny.

The Spirit gives victory over the flesh. The Christian life cannot be lived by fleshly strength. The believer must learn to walk in the Spirit. This means yielding to God’s truth, obeying Scripture, and refusing the desires of the flesh.

Stand in the armour of God. The believer is in a spiritual battle. God tells His people to put on the whole armour of God. You are not called to stand in your own wisdom or strength, but in the strength God gives.

Confess sin and return to God. If you fail, do not hide, excuse, or quit. Confess sin to God and return to obedience. The answer is not despair. The answer is honesty, confession, cleansing, and continuing to walk with the Lord.

How should I face temptation? The Bible gives clear direction. Do not treat temptation lightly, but do not believe you are helpless. God gives truth, commands, warnings, and help for the believer.

Pride makes temptation more dangerous. A believer should not say, “I would never fall.” The Bible warns that a person who thinks he stands should take heed. Stay humble, stay watchful, stay in the Word, and stay dependent on God.
