WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO REPENT AND BELIEVE?

Repentance and faith belong together when a sinner comes to Christ. Repentance is not a payment for sin or an attempt to earn salvation. It is turning honestly to God, agreeing with Him about sin, and leaving behind confidence in yourself.

Faith is trusting Jesus Christ and His finished work. You stop relying on your goodness, religion, prayers, feelings, or efforts to save you. You rest in Christ alone.

Biblical repentance is more than feeling sorry about consequences. A person may feel grief, fear, or regret and still refuse to come to God. Repentance is the heart turning toward God in humility and truth.

The sinner stops defending sin, blaming others, or pretending there is no problem. He comes to God knowing that he needs mercy.

Repentance does not mean that you first make yourself good enough to be saved. You cannot reform your way into salvation. Good works cannot remove guilt or pay for sin.

A changed life should follow salvation, but life change is the fruit of God’s grace. It is not the price a sinner pays to receive Christ.

Saving faith is not merely knowing facts about Jesus or agreeing that He existed. A person may know Bible truths and still be trusting in himself. Faith means depending on Jesus Christ as the only Savior who can forgive your sin.

The question is not, “Have I tried hard enough?” The question is, “What am I trusting in for salvation?”

The gospel is the good news that Jesus Christ died for our sins, was buried, and rose again. To believe the gospel is to trust that Christ’s sacrifice is fully sufficient to save you.

His death pays for sin. His resurrection proves that He conquered death. Nothing needs to be added to the finished work of Christ.

Repentance and faith are not two separate ways of salvation. They describe the same turning of a sinner to God. In repentance, you turn from self and sin. In faith, you turn to Christ and depend on Him.

You do not save yourself by turning from sin. Christ saves you. Repentance simply brings you honestly to the Savior instead of continuing in rebellion or self-reliance.

God calls sinners to respond to the gospel now. Do not wait until you feel more worthy, understand every answer, or become a better person. Come to Christ as you are: a sinner who needs His mercy.
